Troubleshooting Msftconnecttest Redirect Error on Public Wi-Fi

Understanding the Issue

Users report difficulties accessing restricted websites on public Wi-Fi networks. This issue stems from the operating system's background tests to verify network functionality. While you can connect to private networks without issues, connecting to public networks triggers the Msftconnecttest Redirect Error.

What is Msftconnecttest?

Msftconnecttest is a Microsoft website used to diagnose network connection status. When NCSI (Network Connectivity Status Indicator) detects connectivity issues, it redirects your browser to this website.

Solving the Problem

To resolve this error and access restricted sites on public Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

  1. Disable Network Diagnostics: In the Windows search bar, type "services.msc" and press Enter. Locate "Network Connectivity Assistant," right-click on it, and select "Properties." Change the "Startup type" to "Disabled" and click "OK."
  2. Reset TCP/IP: In the Windows search bar, type "cmd" and run Command Prompt as administrator. Type the following commands and press Enter after each:
netsh int ip reset netsh winsock reset ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew
  3. Clear DNS Cache: Type "cmd" in the Windows search bar and run Command Prompt as administrator. Type the following command and press Enter:
       ipconfig /flushdns
  4. Restart Computer: Reboot your computer to apply the changes and resolve the issue.

Conclusion

By disabling network diagnostics, resetting TCP/IP, clearing the DNS cache, and restarting your computer, you can fix the Msftconnecttest Redirect Error and regain access to restricted sites on public Wi-Fi networks.
